About the Tan Shop

The Tan Shop is located in Guilderland, New York in Star Plaza at the corner of Western Avenue and Route 155.

The Tan shop opened 3 years ago. We recognized the need for an upscale tanning salon that prides itself on promoting responsible tanning in an upbeat, clean and friendly environment. We continually re- evaluate our clients' needs and bring in the newest lotions and products to meet those needs. We promote The Smart Tan philosophy and help educate our clients on a daily basis. We were recently featured in a fascinating article in the Island Sun Times.

Some of the latest information we are reviewing with our clients includes:

• Research in recent years has shown that special “bright light” therapy can help. Just as a sunny day makes us feel good, our clients report getting a mental lift from indoor tanning this time of year.

• Indoor tanners are 81% less likely to sunburn outdoors than non-tanners, according to Smart Tan surveys

• Moderate indoor tanning is the smartest way to maximize the potential benefits of sun exposure while minimizing the potential risks associated with either too much or too little sunlight.

On January 1, 2007 a New York State law went into effect to help promote safe and responsible tanning. As a part of the new legislation, we now require :

• Photo ID and protective eyewear must be shown prior to each visit with us.
• All clients between the ages of 14 and 18 will be required to have a consent form signed by their parent or guardian prior to the first visit.
• No person under the age of 14 shall be allowed to use UV tanning devices, but he or she may use UV free Mystic Tanning.
